Make a list of all damaged items. Include the make and model number, especially if they are appliances, electrical appliances, or electronic devices. Take photos of the damage. Do not forget to list things like clothing, sports equipment, tools, china, table linens, patio furniture, decorations and other items, you do not always keep an eye on these, but they are part of your heritage.
Organize a file with your documents. Collect vouchers, receipts, old bills and photos – to establish the price and age of everything that needs to be repaired or replaced. Of course, if your property was completely destroyed and you lack this type of information or history, you will have to rely on your memory. In that case, try to imagine everything that was in each room and write a description of what it was. Try to remember when you bought each item and how much you paid for it. It is good to do all of this as soon as possible, while your memory is fresh. After a while, you may not remember the details.
Don’t get rid of damaged furniture or other expensive items, because the claims adjuster will want to see them.
