We all know that food is a crucial part of any holiday festivities. But what if we told you there are some foods out there that not only taste great but will also keep your teeth healthy? We’re here to tell you which Holiday foods can be considered “dentist-approved.”

Apples:

There’s nothing like sinking your teeth into a crisp, fresh apple during the winter months. And while apples have always been an excellent source of Vitamin C and fiber, did you know they’re actually great for our oral health? Apples are high in malic acid which can help to fight early cavity formation by increasing alkalinity among other saliva benefits.

Pumpkin:

Another food that tastes great during the holidays is pumpkin. But beyond being able to top your favorite baked good with it, you can also eat it on its own or even bake with it! And if you thought pumpkin only tasted good in the fall… think again. Pumpkin is one of those foods that are dentist-approved because they are high in fiber and Vitamin A.

Berries:

What’s a holiday feast without cranberries? This tart fruit is actually great for our oral health because it helps to prevent plaque build-up. Cranberries are also a good source of Vitamin C and antioxidants. So, the next time you’re reaching for that can of cranberry sauce, you’ll know why it’s dentist-approved!

And what’s even better is that most nuts are also high in fiber which can help promote healthy teeth and gums. So, go ahead and indulge in a few of your favorite nuts this season!

With these foods, it is important to be mindful of how much you eat as well as your brushing and flossing habits. It’s recommended that crunchy fruits and vegetables make up about a third of the food you consume each day, dairy products make up another third, and sugar-free drinks make up the final third. These foods may be dentist-approved but you still need to brush after consuming them if you want to keep those pearly whites healthy!
